Potty training progress

Big news here--Luca has been diaper-free during the day for just over a week now! The first few days after the switch to big boy underwear we were still putting him in a diaper if we left the house but we're not even doing that anymore. We're just using a diaper for nap time and bedtime. He still has the occasional accident but for the most part those have occurred when he was busy playing outside and couldn't make it inside to the potty in time. I'm really amazed at how well he has done and how quickly this transition has seemed to happen. I think that the bottom line is that it really plays to his independent streak because now there is another thing that he can do for himself. I'm still giving him reminders every hour or so just to keep it in his mind but most of the time he just heads to the potty himself or asks mom or dad to take him to the bathroom. I'm so proud of Luca! I'm still a bit shocked that this has happened already--do I really have a child mostly out of diapers?!

4th of July

We had a fun evening yesterday starting with a cookout at Jeremy and Liz's house. Luca had fun playing with some little girls, 4 and 6 years old. He always gravitates towards the girls! We went to see fireworks on BGSU's campus. Beforehand we talked to Luca about how there would be loud noises and then pretty lights. He kept repeating it and I thought he would do OK. A few minutes before the fireworks started, Todd brought Luca with him to the bathroom. They started while there were still inside and I guess they got about halfway back to us when Luca started to freak out a bit. He kept saying, "Luca no like loud noises" and "Go to car." So Todd took him back to the safety of the car where they remained for the rest of the fireworks. I think that if he had been sitting with me when they started he might have done OK. There's always next year! Here's a few photos--I finally got to try out the "fireworks" setting on my camera with some fun results!

Memorial Day weekend

We spent the weekend on Lake Erie with the Brininger's and had a very nice time. Luca had lots of fun playing with his cousin! We threw rocks in the lake, playing at the playground, went to see a lighthouse, built a fire, etc.

Gotta love the nuclear reactor in the background...

Father and son

These pictures are too cute! Watching Luca follow Todd around the yard with his little toy mower was just adorable!

Mmm, cake batter...

Last week I let Luca do something for the first time. When I was making a cake I let him lick the beater. He loved it. Can you blame him???

Worms 'n dirt

We have been loving this spring weather and have been spending a good chunk of time outside each day. This weekend, Luca had a new discovery...worms! I was digging up some grass that had invaded our rock area and found a ton of worms. Well once I picked up an earthworm to show Luca, he was very in to the worms. Here's some pictures of his first worm encounter!
